Paperboard

What is Paperboard?

Paperboard is a thick and resilient paper-based material extensively utilised in various packaging and printing contexts. It exhibits a greater thickness and rigidity compared to standard paper, rendering it well-suited for crafting sturdy packaging solutions. Employed across diverse industries, paperboard is available in an array of thicknesses and densities, accommodating an assortment of packaging needs ranging from lightweight folding cartons to heavy-duty packaging boxes. Renowned for its versatility, paperboard can be easily manipulated into different shapes and sizes through cutting and folding processes. Notably, it boasts excellent printability, allowing for the application of vibrant graphics and branding elements directly onto its surface. Furthermore, paperboard is predominantly recyclable and biodegradable, aligning with sustainability initiatives in the packaging sector.

Specifications

Paperboard has specific features that determine its characteristics and uses. It is typically thinner and more flexible, measuring less than 0.3 millimeters in thickness. The weight of the paperboard is often measured in grams per square meter (gsm) or pounds (lbs), reflecting its density. Paperboard comes in different colors, with variants like single to full-color CMYK and PMS. Some types may have coatings for protection or a smooth finish. Its printability is crucial for packaging and printed materials, compatible with methods like embossing, debossing, texture printing, silver or gold foiling, and spot UV. These features make paperboard suitable for items like cereal boxes, paperback book covers, and greeting cards.

Why Paper boards are preferable

paperboard’s smooth surface and printability make it a preferred material for producing printed materials. Book covers, posters, and promotional materials benefit from the ability of paperboard to showcase detailed and intricate prints. The stiffness of paperboard ensures that printed materials maintain their integrity and visual appeal, contributing to effective communication and brand representation. Moreover, paperboard serves as a canvas for various crafts and do-it-yourself (DIY) projects. Its versatility allows individuals to cut, fold, and manipulate paperboard into artistic and functional creations.
